AMAZONAS SHIELD

Approved by Decree No. 204 of November 24, 1897.
THE ELLIPSE: Represents the confluence of the Solimes and Negro rivers to form the Amazon.
THE BLUE FIELD: Depicts the Brazilian sky.
THE BRANCHING OF THE RIVERS: The Phyrgian cap represents our loyalty to the Republic.
THE GREEN FIELD: Reflects our forests.
THE ENTWINED ARROWS AND QUILLS: Represent the beginning of our grandeur.
THE IRON CHAIN, SURROUNDING THE ELLIPSE: Represents stability of political autonomy in Amazonas.
THE NAUTICAL EMBLEMS, LINKED BY A GREEN BANNER WITH TWO FOLDED POINTS, HANGING FROM THE LOWER PART OF THE CHAIN - RIGHT HAND SIDE: the inscription reads June 22, 1832. This was the date that the former Amazonas region proclaimed itself (by way of arms) an independent province.
LEFT HAND SIDE: November 21, 1889. This was the date that the State joined the great revolution, which began November 15 of the same year.
UPPER PART OF THE ELLIPSE, THE RISING SUN AND ON TOP OF THE SHIELD, THE AMAZONIAN EAGLE: With its wings spread open, its curved talons and slightly open beak, the eagle symbolizes grandeur and strength.
RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SHIELD: The emblems of industry.
ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE SHIELD: Originating from the anchor, the emblems of commerce and agriculture.
