
MANAUS OLYMPIC VILLAGE
Inaugurated on March 26, 1990 by Governor Amazonino Mendes, the Olympic Village is one of the best equipped and prepared centres in Latin America. It's no surprise that so many national and international championships and exhibits are held here.
The Olympic Village also opens its doors to the locals and has a variety of activities to offer in its 228,288 m². These activities help promote local sports and stimulate the development of new athletes. Some of the services and activities include:
*Athletics Track - built on a thick foundation of compact granite gravel, covered with layers of concrete asphalt and hot mix asphalt; top layer consists of Sportflex and Mondo Rubber, imported from Canada. The track can be used for triple jump, high jump, discus throw, hammer throw and javelin throw.
* Athletics Field - The field has a modern drainage system which uses 1,910 m of concrete tubing embedded in and covered by 2,600 m² of granite gravel, on top of which lies a 15,370 m² Bidim cover. The field is grassed and fully equipped.
* Aquatic Park
- The Olympic Pool - measures 25 x 50 m;
- The Semi-Olympic Pool - measures 17 x 25 m;
- The Dive Pool - measures 12 x 17.2 m; the concrete dive tower is 11 metres tall.
The Aquatic Park has a (25 m²) time-keeping booth with Colorado Rey Cab - Cam System - The Performance Edge equipment. The male and female dressing rooms, bar and bathrooms are open to the public. Upkeep is carried out by the modern Casa de Máquinas with complete filtering equipment consisting of 6 filters to service the whole facility, with 6 automatic dosers. There are 8 pumps: 3 pumps of 30CV for the competition pool; 3 of 25CV for the dive pool and 2 of 15CV for the training pool.
* Courts - There are four athletic courts. All courts are covered by metal structures and are equipped with dressing rooms for athletes in training. There is a multi-use court for indoor soccer and handball, and another for volleyball and basketball; there is a table tennis court and a wrestling and martial arts court. In addition, there is a weights and fitness room.

The Olympic Village boasts a housing facility which is able to host up to 220 athletes; a cafeteria which can handle 160 meals simultaneously; two administration buildings and two maintenance buildings. There are also public telephones and a modern PA system with a distributive switchboard able to handle simultaneous calls. Drinking water is supplied by an 80 metre deep artesian well and a cistern system with an elevated reservoir which can hold up to 96 m² of water.
For sports students, the Olympic Village employs the services of 4 Cuban coaches and 2 Cuban doctors, 4 Russian coaches and 1 Brazilian coordinator, all of whom are internationally qualified and are responsible for preparing world-record athletes on an international and Olympic level. The coaches work with 7 teachers, 3 supervisors, 2 doctors, 2 nurses, 2 physiotherapists, 1 massage therapist, and 1 odontologist, all Brazilian. Their services are also avaible to hearing and visually impaired persons.
