The Amazon river is formed by the convergence of the dark waters of the Negro River and the lighter muddy waters of the Solimões River. The explanation behind this spectacular phenomenon may be down to the difference in density, temperature and flow rate between the two rivers.

Originally built in 1695, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Conceição was the first church in Manaus. In 1850 it was damaged by fire and in 1878 it was finally destroyed. It possesses 6 bells from Portugal.
